Residential Egress Windows (2010 CBC) requirements in the City of Santa Clara


When you decide to get new windows, make sure the project meets all the current building standards. Some window companies are very conscientious of the building codes.  Other window companies quote a lower price, but aren't as concerned about meeting today's requirements.

Here are the minimum requirements for the City of Santa Clara:

The "openable" area of the window has to be at least 5.7 sq ft, so that a person can fit through in case of fire. Moreover, the height of the bottom of the openable area can at most be 44” max. from bottom of the clear opening to the floor in egress windows in sleeping rooms because if the window opening is too high, people would have trouble reaching that height, even if the opening is large.

For High School:
All of the Homes, Townhomes, Condo in this part of Santa Clara go to Santa Clara High School (Just West of Kiely from Central Park.  Not Wilcox High School which is farther North, up at Monroe).

For Middle School:
The NW quadrant (Central Park quadrant) go to Cabrillo Middle School (Go North on San Tomas. Pass El Camino Real.  Go Left on Cabrillo).
The other 3 quadrants (NE, SW, SE) go to Buchser Middle School (Close to Santa Clara University).

For Elementary School:
The SW quadrant goes to Sutter Elementary (Go South on Homestead Rd. Turn Left/South at Pomeroy.)
The NW quadrant goes to Pomeroy Elementary (Go South on Homestead, but turn Right/North at Pomeroy until pass above Benton.)
The NE and SE quadrants (East of San Tomas Expwy) go to Haman Elementary (Go North on Homestead Rd.  Turn Left/North on Los Padres.)
