When you decide to get new windows, make sure the project meets all the current building standards. Some window companies are very conscientious of the building codes. Other window companies quote a lower price, but aren't as concerned about meeting today's requirements.

The "openable" area of the window has to be at least 5.7 sq ft, so that a person can fit through in case of fire. Moreover, the height of the bottom of the openable area can at most be 44” max. from bottom of the clear opening to the floor in egress windows in sleeping rooms because if the window opening is too high, people would have trouble reaching that height, even if the opening is large.
